Celebration of International Danube Day at the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, June 29, 2026
On the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), the theme of this year's panel was "15 Years of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region – Connecting Regions, Strengthening Cohesion: A Stronger Danube for All."
Speaking about the activities and significance of the Republic of Serbia's participation in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, the Head of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union, Ambassador Danijel Apostolović, emphasized that macro-regional strategies have become an additional instrument for supporting reforms in Serbia. They contribute to strengthening institutional capacities, fostering regional cooperation, and improving preparedness for assuming the obligations arising from future membership in the European Union. He also noted that the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) has enabled Serbia to work on an equal footing with EU Member States through joint projects and policy coordination.
The panel also featured remarks by Mr. Moray Gilland, Head of the Unit for Macro-Regions, Transnational and Interregional Cooperation, and Enlargement at the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission; Ms. Ingrid Taschek, Deputy National Coordinator of the EUSDR for Baden-Württemberg; and Ms. Mina Radmilović Pjevac, Head of the Department for Cooperation with Regions and Institutions at the European Affairs Fund of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
The panel participants highlighted the importance of preserving water resources, developing river infrastructure, and promoting economic, social, and cultural development through initiatives focused on transnational and cross-border cooperation along the Danube.
