- The First Intergovernmental Conference, held in Brussels on January 21, 2014, marked the beginning of the accession negotiations. On this occasion, the European Union's Negotiating Framework and the Republic of Serbia's Opening Statement were presented.
- At the Second Intergovernmental Conference, held on December 14, 2015, in Brussels during Luxembourg’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened: Chapter 32 (Financial Control) and Chapter 35 (Other Issues).
- At the Third Intergovernmental Conference, held on July 18, 2016, in Brussels during Slovakia’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened: Chapter 23 (Judiciary and Fundamental Rights) and Chapter 24 (Justice, Freedom, and Security).
- At the Fourth Intergovernmental Conference, held on December 13, 2016, in Brussels during Slovakia’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened – Chapter 5 (Public Procurement) and Chapter 25 (Science and Research, which was provisionally closed).
- At the Fifth Intergovernmental Conference, held on February 27, 2017, in Brussels during Malta’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened – Chapter 20 (Enterprise and Industrial Policy) and Chapter 26 (Education and Culture, which was provisionally closed).
- At the Sixth Intergovernmental Conference, held on June 20, 2017, in Luxembourg during Malta’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened – Chapter 7 (Intellectual Property Law) and Chapter 29 (Customs Union).
- At the Seventh Intergovernmental Conference, held on December 11, 2017, in Brussels during Estonia’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened – Chapter 6 (Company Law) and Chapter 30 (External Relations).
- At the Eighth Intergovernmental Conference, held on June 25, 2018, in Luxembourg during Bulgaria’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened – Chapter 13 (Fisheries) and Chapter 33 (Financial and Budgetary Provisions).
- At the Ninth Intergovernmental Conference, held on December 10, 2018, in Brussels during Austria’s presidency of the EU Council, two chapters were opened – Chapter 17 (Economic and Monetary Union) and Chapter 18 (Statistics).
- At the Tenth Intergovernmental Conference, held on June 27, 2019, in Brussels during Romania’s presidency of the EU Council, one chapter was opened – Chapter 9 (Financial Services).
- At the Eleventh Intergovernmental Conference, held on December 10, 2019, in Brussels during Finland’s presidency of the EU Council, one chapter was opened – Chapter 4 (Free Movement of Capital).
- At the Twelfth Intergovernmental Conference, held in Luxembourg on June 22, 2021, during Portugal’s presidency of the EU Council, a decision was made to open Cluster 1 – Fundamentals. This was the first intergovernmental conference held in accordance with the revised accession negotiation methodology.
- At the Thirteenth Intergovernmental Conference, held on December 14, 2021, in Brussels during Slovenia’s presidency of the EU Council, Cluster 4 – Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity was opened.
