MANDATE

  • The Mission represents the Republic of Serbia in the European Union;
  • It contributes to the achievement of Serbia’s three key foreign policy priorities: the EU accession negotiation process, strengthening regional cooperation, and safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country;
  • Within its competencies, the Mission regularly and continuously informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia about developments in the European integration process – the accession negotiations, implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), as well as Serbia’s overall engagement with EU institutions and member states. It also reports on key elements of the EU’s internal and external policies and related matters;
  • In accordance with its mandate, the Mission implements the foreign policy of the Republic of Serbia and maintains contacts with EU bodies, the permanent representations of EU member states in Brussels and missions of third countries;
  • The Mission monitors and analyzes the work of relevant EU institutions and their working bodies – including the European Council, the Council of the EU, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European External Action Service (EEAS), and others;
  • The Mission serves as the communication channel for matters related to the alignment of Serbia’s foreign policy with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), including association with EU declarations, statements, and decisions;
  • It is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Agreement on Serbia’s participation in EU civilian and military missions, as well as the Agreement on Security Procedures for the exchange of classified information;
  • The Mission monitors and supports the implementation of all other agreements concluded between the Republic of Serbia and the EU, such as agreements on Serbia’s participation in EU programs (Horizon Europe, Creative Europe, Erasmus+, Fiscalis, Customs, etc.);
  • It prepares and facilitates visits by high-level state delegations, as well as delegations from government sectors participating in regular technical discussions within EU institutions;
  • The Mission carries out all necessary activities related to the Dialogue on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, facilitated by the European Union;
  • It actively engages in public diplomacy, undertaking initiatives to enhance the overall image of Serbia in the EU. This includes cooperation and outreach to a wide range of media outlets, international and other organizations’ representations, as well as civil society organizations, think tanks, institutes, associations, and more.
